In 2008 Dr. John Ratey, an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School released a book that examined the link between physical exercise and brainpower, Spark.

The book examines the connections between even moderate exercise,  the reduction of stress levels, improved memory, and even enhance academic performance in children.

The following article was published in the Globe and Mail in November and tells the story of a teacher in Saskatchewan who read the book and decided to introduce treadmills into her Grade 10 classroom in an attempt to improve academic scores, and it worked.

The kids in her program, Movement Matters, dramatically outscored those in classes it wasn’t offered on standardized test.
